Tacos de lechon at Chichen Itza, Downtown Los Angeles


Judging by just about everything coming out of the kitchen at this counter inside an unpredictably-located Latino community center/mini-mall, you really can't go wrong. Tortas are particularly popular. However, if you're visiting on a holiday like Father's Day, you might find yourself balking at the 30-minute wait and opting for the Sunday-only special lechon. Do not feel as if you've "settled." In fact, this fragrant, tender, savory, rich pork accented by crisp pieces of salty skin is so incredible, I can't imagine even Rick Bayless making anything better. It just isn't possible.
