Beet Carpaccio at Terrapin Crossroads, San Rafael
Although I've pretty much had it up to here with beets (seasonal or not, healthy or not, enough is enough!), I made exception for this Beet Carpaccio at Terrapin Crossroads, a folksy live music club and resto co-owned by Grateful Dead legend Phil Lesh.
Sliced thin, these rediscovered root veggies deliver their best qualities without their typically overwhelming girth. Topped with avocado, arugula, marcona almonds, and a tarragon vinaigrette for a nice balance of nutty, fatty, fresh and crunchy flavor and texture.
EC Chris Fernandez's menu strikes a good harmony overall between comfort and creativity at reasonable price points. If you're in Marin County, it's worth a visit (especially for music fans).
